I was back in Dubai for a few days this week, and it was super hot! A bit too much, as the UK summer did not overly prepare me for 42°C, but it was a fun trip nonetheless. While out at dinner one night, I was chatting with someone who enjoys Barry’s Bootcamp, and she was surprised I was not a huge fan of it for most people.

The reason for that is, among a number of other ongoing misconceptions about getting in shape that most trainers, fitness programs, and approaches still maintain, you must do. The end result is everyone believes you HAVE to do things that actually put you off trying to get in shape.

When working with me, I do not allow anyone to get bogged down in things that you do not need to do; I want to make it as easy as possible. Some of the most common misconceptions about getting in shape include:

It takes ages to see results – I have never understood why people think it takes a long time to see some sort of results. In one day, you can transform yourself to feel motivated, positive, and focused. Your energy and health can be improved within two days. You can see the first signs of your body composition changing within a few days. Put it all together; then, this time next week, you can feel like a totally different person just by taking some action today! Within the first month, you can then see significant changes in how your body looks.

Food is such an effort – Eating to change your body and health does not need to be miserable. You do not need to remove all your favorite foods; you can still have plenty of taste within your eating. You do not need to cook 10 meals ahead, and you do not have to spend all your money on what you eat. All of these elements can be worked around, and you can get results on tasty foods, including ‘bad’ food, and you do not need to magically find another 10 hours a week to cook or double your food budget. The key to this is finding the right compromises and thresholds of behaviors to make it easy for you. This is what I do with all my coaching clients.

Exercise is a painful chore – In reality, most people do not like exercise that much; this is why only a small percentage are actually consistent with their training. If this is you, then you can do any exercise that you enjoy, including workouts that push you really hard like Barry’s Bootcamp. However, if you do not love exercise, you should just do the basic minimum for health benefits. You do not even need to exercise for weight loss if you really hate it; you can walk your way to results. This is another option I offer my clients and get great results doing it. You should exercise for mental and physical health, of course, but there is nothing you must do. You can drop your HIIT workouts or never do a burpee if you dislike them. The road to exercise success is long and steady, which gives many options to ensure you enjoy the process.

What Does This Mean For You?

If you have been thinking about getting on a fitness drive yet have not got into gear, there is a good chance one of the above areas is putting you off from starting. You should take action today in some way; there is no reason to delay things further, stop creating false requirements or picturing the worst-case scenario. In a very quick amount of time, you can see the benefits, and the process may be a lot more enjoyable than you ever imagined. If you need support during this process either in-person or online, then reply to this email for more details.

Photo – Due to the heat of Dubai, I didn’t actually do that much that was photo-worthy. Here are a few pics I did take and one of me in the gym out there.
