I was chatting this week about the effort curve. This relates to how your health & fitness results do not have a linear relationship with effort. Instead, there is this weird S-shape pattern where you may get limited results despite putting in a nice bit of effort but then get a rapid increase in results from just a little extra input. After this point further increases in effort give only minor increases in results because you have already covered the most important factors. This has serious implications for health and fitness because way too many people quit when they just need a small increase in effort to see some significant results. The other side to this is when you end up quitting because you are pushing it too hard when you are already getting nice results. In this scenario you should focus on being patient and consistent at that current threshold. This all comes back to the art of body transformations.

What Does This Mean For You?

Navigating these sort of issues is one of the reasons having a coach gets you improved results. It is hard to know whether you are close to the effort level that brings rapid results or if you are a long way off. This has implications for how to react to it. I know many of my success stories have come from me stopping people increasing their effort and intensity when things are progressing nicely. This is very hard to do when you are doing it alone.
