The other day I felt amazing. For no reason in particular but I was feeling sensational. I had to jog down the road on my way to a party because I was overly energised. There is a feeling you get from doing what you should be doing in your health and fitness that cannot be found elsewhere. It is an energy,  a vibrancy that just runs through you. It empowers you.

This feeling though is alien to most people. They haven’t experienced it for a long time or they are not quite sure how it should feel. This is a significant problem because your body will tell you how well you are doing through this feeling. Feeling amazing for no reason is an internal issue.  The better the inside of your body (thoughts and biochemistry) the easier it is to feel amazing!

If you are eating too little you will not experience this feeling, if you are eating too much of the wrong foods you will suppress this sensation also, if you are over training you will not feel it. If you have a poor breathing pattern, are sleep deprived or the body is being hit with toxins etc then this feeling will be difficult to attune to. Finally, even if the body is vibrating this feeling to you when the mind is full of errant thoughts you will fail to tune in to this feeling.

If you subscribe to the theory that life is about being “happy” then the fastest path to fulfilling this is completely and totally under your control. What most of us do however is fall for the idea that this happy feeling comes from the outside, from getting something, doing something, meeting a set of conditions so we have permission to feel a certain way. While you can make an argument for it all you want I think anyone who has been in shape will know that one of the best feeling you can get is right before you and just needs you to give the body the appropriate (food/exercise/reduced physical “stresses”).

If this feeling is so easy to get then why do’t we experience it al of the time???????

For starters, most people do not know the feeling they are chasing nor the protocols that will take them there. But equally of importance is that most people have never learnt nor looked into how the mind works, how emotion and thought are related and where thought comes from. While this may seem a million miles away from 10 minutes on the treadmill, the reason most people fail with their body and never get where they want to be is exactly because they do not see the link between the two. I discuss this at length in my book Change Your Thinking, Change Your Shape.

If you are one of the people who “know” how great it feels to be in shape yet still are not doing what you should. The path to success is from looking at the working of your mind. Outside of my book (some say the best book written on getting in shape….valid…that some = a very biased me) then looking into the 3 principles is one option to develop this knowledge

The Difference of feeling amazing and thinking you feel amazing.

I think many people struggle with feeling sensational because they are looking in the wrong place. The body, when in shape (“fit”, strong, postural balance and biochemically optimized) will emit an energy and sensational feeling that is hard to ignore. This is from the inside and has nothing to do with what you are thinking. This feeling is always there within all of us but it is just hard to notice when you feel stiff, tired, unfit and suffering aches and pains.

Thinking you feel amazing is coming down to which thoughts you are thinking vs the emotions they produce. It links into the pre set conditions you have made for yourself before you have “permission” to feel a certain way. I could have all the physical elements in place telling me I feel great and through listening to my errant thoughts (worries/self criticisms etc) you will barely notice how good you are feeling. Then you will go searching for this feeling on the outside (TV, internet, eating, drinking, shopping) and the cycle has begun.

Expectations

A final area people get a little confused about when it comes to feeling amazing is how often you should feel it. It is impossible to feel sensational all of the time, even if you did, you would reset your thresholds so you would still have “ups” and “downs” but they would be at a much higher level.

Rather than feeling sensational all of the time (impossible) the question is, how often do I feel amazing for no reason? This should be your aim, is it once a month, once a week, once a day??? Start monitoring this and your path to health and fitness will be in a good place.

How often do you feel amazing for no reason?????

September 11th – 14th (4/4 days measured)

I did a few nice gym sessions but then there was a mess up with my gym membership and I couldn’t use it as the doors are all automated. Food wise I am alternating higher calorie days with lower calorie fat loss days as I strip down some final elements of fat before I go to Brazil next week.

Diet – Protein – 175g, Carbs – 286g, fat – 70g, calories – 2470 calories,   % P:  28% C : 48%  F: 25%

Exercise – Weights x 3, 2 off days

Weight – 71.5kg                            Body fat – Didn’t take – (last measure – 36.5mm*)

Supplements – Numerous as finishing up some bottles – These include digestive aids/multi vitamins/detox supplements

*This is my own 10 point self measurement system, it does not correlate to body fat scores. At a guess 40mm – 8%, 50mm – 9.5%, 60mm – 11%, 70mm – 12.5%. I do not take it everyday if looking to gain muscle or maintain as it puts me off wanting to eat more. If on fat loss phase I take it daily. Like any body fat measurement system, as you get to low body fat levels the number become less accurate or reliable.
