With recent sprinkling of sun people are realising that summer is on the way and that they better get off their ass and do something. As such the phone lines are ringing and a few new clients have come on board. There is nothing like the buzz of a new client. I am as excited, motivated and passionate for results now as I was when I first trained someone back in 2002. There is a great energy when someone starts out, a combination of unlimited possibility entangled with a realisation that if nothing changes the person really will have problems.

The opening fitness profile test reveals so many weaknesses you wouldn’t believe. While you may feel ok, as in, you are still alive. When every element of your body is appraised using this test you see restrictions, weaknesses and imbalances come to the surface. What excites me is that most people can remove these problems with 3-7 weeks. When they do this it is easy to maintain these new found strengths and thus their body will feel great and remain that way for a long time to come. IF you cannot be excited by this then you are in the wrong professions.

The personal training industry is interesting field. What appears so simple on the outside – stand there and tell someone to move, is ridiculously tough on the indie. A good trainer needs to be a master of fitness training, injury rehabilitation, nutrition and psychology. To top that off you better learn marketing and business skills or the former will all be irrelevant if no one knows about you. Then the icing on the cake is the ability to act and enthusiastic even when you feel like shit.

The promise of good money, apparent simplicity of the task in combination with ease to enter the industry means that many people each year enter the game. However, over 50% of people who enter the fitness industry are gone within 12 months…ouch! That’s a few grand wasted on your training course.

Depending what circles you follow in personal training world so many trainers have zero enthusiasm to work with clients. They always go on about great results, guaranteed fat loss, life changing experiences yet prefer to do anything else but help with fitness or weight loss. Something must be out of place because if you are not charged , focused and inspired when you have  a person with a battered and out of shape body in front of you (who is just 1-2 months away from being transformed for life) then you need to get back into touch with what motivates you.

Monday – Wednesday

This week I threw in a ft stripping day while working on lifting weights in the gym, Stiffness post chest and leg day is always a god sign. I decided not to race in a athletics meeting Wednesday night s my body felt stiff. I am 50/50 on competing further this year. On the one hand I am in quite good form while on the other it is frustrating now i have limited training to once a week as it is very hard to get faster with such little training emphasis. I am pretty sure I fi changed my focus just to athletics i could set a new PB but I made a commitment to focus just on body development and i shall stick to it. On this front I am still caught in the classic no man’s land issue of looking good with your top on vs off. This sounds like another blog post. .
