Thursday I was up early for a client and to finish my weekly newsletter on losing fat and so forth. With a not that productive day on the computer I had a client in the evening before heading off to the cinema.
When people think nutrition their immediate question / concern is do I have to stop ______ forever? This varies between people of course from some saying wine, others to chocolate and cakes etc. I always ask why do you start with that and not with your breakfast , lunches and dinner that are routine and regular day in day out. The reason most people struggle with their diet is that at their back of their mind they believe they have to be 100% strict and lead a life of taste free and addiction free “hell”. The converse is true of course, if you were able to lead this life you would feel beyond magnificent and couldn’t be further from “hell”.
While my ideological half subscribes to this theory, my practical results coaching doesn’t. To remove all taste and addictive behaviours is possible but this is one heck of a long term project and it’s purpose must come from deeper spiritual pursuits. Heck, most people just dont want to look awful on the beach. So in practical nutrition we are talking about bending the rule to get the results and keep the freedom.
When you go to the cinema, restaurants you have the opportunity to put this to the test. There are four approaches i take when heading the cinema. That is –
1) Eat whatever I want be it popcorn, chocolates or whatever
2) Have just a tiny bit of the above
3) Bring my own food
4) Bring 2-3litres of salted water and drink it during the film to hydrate myself.
My favourite option is the salt water hydration, i love it! At the end you are hydrated and the body thanks me for it the next day. I normally have an even distribution between options 2-4 and then option 1 I will do as well. The key for this pattern to work long term is to truly give yourself permission to do each one. If you are eating rubbish then just enjoy it and then jump right back on the plan of action the following day. If drinning water then enjoy it too. Most people instead play some guilt card about the first option and thus never relax doing it or worse all ow it to set them off into a chain of bad eating for days to come. I say most people, i of course mean people who have a hint of interest in their diet etc. Most people don’t!
For the record yesterday i took some chicken and a 1 litre of fruit juice which was great. The film mud was ok, I shall return Saturday to see the Rock in fast and furious 6 and as i am competing athletics wise option 4 and my salt water seems favourite for the film.
Thursday –
Today I nailed an shoulder session. It is hard to pick my favourite workout of the week but shoulders right now is super seeding chest day. I was stiff in the lower limbs from running yesterday but I was walking around with what i call personal best energy. A unique feeling of when you simply feel amazing after performing a fitness best for a while. It is a feeling you cannot buy except by putting in the work and knocking out the improvements. Then just enjoy it while it lasts. Though saying that, heavy muscle stiffness soon takes that good feeling away.
A good days eating, nailing all my nutrition targets pretty much. Good work me – BEN BEN BEN BEN BEN BEN! 🙂
