Previously I have discussed Swimming, Walking and Jogging. Here we look at gym exercise classes.

The Positives about Gym Exercise Classes –

  • Enjoyment – For many to most people they do not enjoy exercise nor the gym. The gym classes mean many people actually find a way to enjoy exercise which is a huge victory in being consistent.
  • Group Environment– Training with other people is a sure fire way to work harder and enjoy the experience more.
  • Variety – With the many different types of exercise you can really mix up your exercise routine.
  • Teacher Lead – Having someone take the class means you can switch off mentally and easily just follow along.
  • Excellent Calorie Burn / Hour – Some of the harder classes really use up energy, e.g. spin, Yoga and slower classes though not so much.

The negatives about Gym Exercise Classes –

  • Minimum Time Period – For many the reason they do not exercise is a lack of time. A 45 minute exercise class may therefore stop someone exercising if they only have 20 minutes free as they do not want to leave the class half way through.
  • Minimum Effort Level – Often you do not feel like putting in a big effort exercise wise and the thought of having to do a tough class puts you off going to workout.
  • Fitness Development – While exercise classes will improve any new persons fitness afer prolonged periods of doing the same classes you may find your fitness reaches a plateau.
  • Logistics – Having to get to the gym for a certain time can be a problem logistically with other demands on your time in life.

Summary

I think any form of exercise is great and gym classes really have some good points to them. The negative to the classes can be worked around, e.g. you do not need to kill yourself if you go to a class, you can exercise gently if needs be. For many this is the only way they can enjoy there exercise which is pretty much the be all and end all!
